Top 9 Must-Visit Travel Destinations for 2025/2026

It was almost impossible to choose just a few places. I have been lucky enough to explore many incredible destinations. There are still many on my bucket list and narrowing it down felt like a challenge.

But here we are! This list is a mix of places I fell in love with and absolutely need to revisit. It also includes some dream destinations I’ve finally decided to explore in 2025 (extended to 2026 as I didn’t have enough vacation). If you’re looking for adventure, breathtaking landscapes, and some off-the-beaten-path gems—welcome!

KENYA

The first thing that blew me away was how ridiculously close and easy it is to spot wildlife. My first encounters was in the famous Masai Mara National Reserve, and it set the bar high. On day one alone, I found myself surrounded by an endless stream of wildebeest, zebras, and all sorts of antelopes—so much so that I started wondering if the rest of the trip could possibly live up to this. Spoiler: Kenya did not disappoint! From the sheer variety of wildlife at every turn to the ever-changing colors of the landscapes, each new area felt like stepping into a completely different world. What amazed me most was how every park and reserve had its own unique atmosphere. Each stop felt like a new adventure.

Highlights

  • Masai Mara National Reserve – Witness the Great Migration (or just be amazed by the sheer amount of wildlife at any time of year).
  • Amboseli National Park – Imagine elephants photo-bombing all your pictures of Mount Kilimanjaro… that’s Amboseli.
  • Lake Naivasha – A peaceful escape where you can take a boat ride and spot birds and hippos way too close for comfort.
  • Mombasa & the Coast – White sandy beaches, turquoise water, and Swahili culture in the historic old town.

When to Go

  • Best time: June to October (dry season) and January to February.
  • Avoid April-May (heavy rains)

CHINA

Growing up in Europe, I always pictured China as a densely packed country of over a billion people, full of bustling cities, pollution, and, of course, rich history—think Great Wall, Terracotta Army, fireworks, etc. But as a destination for nature lovers? That never really crossed my mind.

Turns out, I couldn’t have been more wrong. China is an absolute dream for anyone who loves the outdoors. I’ve only scratched the surface, but every trip has made me fall harder for this country. From jaw-dropping landscapes to the warm hospitality, China constantly surprised me. The modernity caught me off guard too—no more cash, just scan and go! And let’s talk about the transportation: efficient trains, smooth roads, and buses everywhere.

Yes, the language barrier can be a challenge, but trust me, it’s worth every bit of effort.

Highlights

When to go

  • Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) are ideal.
  • Avoid peak travel times during Chinese New Year (January-February) and Golden Week (October).
  • Winter can be magical if you want to see snow-covered landscapes.

INDONESIA

Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelago, is a tropical wonderland of over 17,000 islands. With its stunning beaches, fiery volcanoes, and rich cultural heritage, it offers everything from buzzing city life to secluded escapes.

It’s easily one of my favorite countries. No matter where you fly within Indonesia, you’re guaranteed breathtaking landscapes, endless adventures, and some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet.

Indonesia has something for every type of traveler. Party lovers can dance the night away in Seminyak, while culture enthusiasts can explore ancient temples from Bali to Yogyakarta. Adventure seekers can climb active volcanoes or dive into underwater wonderlands like Bunaken, where rare fish and vibrant coral await. Nature lovers? You are spoiled for choices! Explore lush rainforests in Borneo or relax on picture-perfect beaches in Nusa Penida. Discover incredible wildlife, from Sumatran orangutans to the mesmerizing birds of paradise in Raja Ampat.

Highlights

When to go

  • Dry season: May to September.
  • Rainy season: November to March is less ideal but good for cultural travel.
  • Tip: Check for each island as it can vary.

FRANCE

As a French person, I simply couldn’t leave my own country off this list—despite being the first to complain about everything wrong with it!

After the 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Paris, I felt a deep sense of pride that people got to see how amazing France (and yes, even the French!) can be. Sure, the political and economic situation might not inspire dreams, but trust me, everything else will.

Living abroad has made me realize what I miss most—and what you should absolutely look forward to when visiting France:

  • Sipping a café (or a hot chocolate in my case) with a croissant at a Parisian terrace. You can overlook the Seine or the Eiffel Tower while watching life go by.
  • Hiking along the rugged coastal trails of Brittany, enjoying the wild beauty of the English Channel—wind and occasional rain included (it’s part of the charm!).
  • Indulging in a traditional meal at a Lyonnais bouchon, where hearty dishes (my favorite: saucisson brioché and bugnes) are served in a lively atmosphere filled with locals passionately debating how to fix the world—or where to find the best baguette.
  • Exploring the bustling markets of the South of France, soaking in the scents of fresh produce and handmade soaps, while chatting with local producers who somehow always manage to start a conversation about the latest news.
  • Getting lost in a medieval village in Dordogne, stumbling upon ancient castles and battle scars from the past.
  • Packing a simple yet perfect sandwich (butter, ham and cheese in a baguette is a classic) for a hike in the Pyrenees, where the mountain views make every step worth it.

I know, I know—some of these sound cliché. But what can I say? That’s part of France’s magic!

Highlights

  • Paris – The Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and effortlessly chic neighborhoods.
  • Provence – Lavender fields, vineyards, and picturesque villages.
  • The French Riviera – Glamorous beaches and coastal towns like Nice and Cannes.
  • Brittany – Wild coastal beauty. 👉 Brittany Travel Guide
  • The Alps – Breathtaking mountain scenery and world-class skiing.
  • Alsace – Half-timbered houses, Christmas markets, and a mix of French and German charm.

When to go

  • Best time: Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–November) for pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

GUATEMALA

Guatemala has been sitting high on my bucket list for a while, and for good reason. This small Central American country seems to have everything I love. It offers stunning landscapes and rich history. There are off-the-beaten-path adventures and just the right amount of chaos to keep things interesting.

From ancient Mayan ruins hidden in the jungle to volcanoes and colonial towns frozen in time, Guatemala feels like the kind of place where every day is an adventure. Oh, and did I mention the colorful markets, wild cloud forests, and the fact that you can roast marshmallows over lava (will need to confirm it once I get there !)?

Highlights

  • Antigua – A picture-perfect colonial town surrounded by volcanoes, cobbled streets, and vibrant markets.
  • Lake Atitlán – A dreamy lake framed by volcanoes, where you can kayak, hike, or just soak in the views.
  • Tikal – One of the most impressive Mayan ruins, hidden deep in the jungle and full of mystery.
  • Acatenango Volcano – A challenging overnight hike with a front-row seat to Fuego, an active volcano that puts on a fiery show.
  • Semuc Champey – Turquoise pools in the middle of the jungle, perfect for swimming and exploring caves.

ALBANIA

Albania has been creeping up my bucket list, and the more I learn about it, the more I wonder why it’s still such a hidden gem. Imagine crystal-clear beaches that rival Greece, rugged mountains perfect for hiking, and ancient towns filled with history—all without the crowds (or the price tag) of its more famous neighbors.

It’s a country where you can go from exploring Ottoman-era castles to sipping coffee in a lively square, then end the day on a pristine beach with not a sunbed in sight. Plus, with warm hospitality, delicious food, and a touch of mystery (thanks to its decades of isolation), Albania feels like the kind of place that surprises you in the best possible way.

Highlights

  • Berat & Gjirokastër – UNESCO-listed towns with Ottoman architecture, cobbled streets, and stunning hilltop views.
  • Butrint – Ancient ruins set in a dreamy coastal setting, perfect for history lovers.
  • Cursed mountain & Maja e Rejit – Wild, untouched landscapes with dramatic peaks, perfect for serious hikers.
  • Shkodër – A lively northern city with a rich history, stunning lake views, and the impressive Rozafa Castle.
  • Lake Komani – Often called the “Norway of Albania,” this fjord-like lake is best explored by boat, with breathtaking scenery at every turn.

When to go

  • Best time: May–October for warm weather and sunny beach days, with September being ideal to avoid peak season crowds

SCOTLAND

Scotland has been calling my name for a while now, and I think it’s a mix of things that make me crave it so much. Maybe it’s the thought of escaping the humidity and heat of life under the equator. Or maybe it’s the epic landscapes I’ve seen in movies and TV shows that make Scotland look like a real-life fairytale. There’s something about the wild, untamed beauty of it all—the misty lochs, the towering mountains, and the sheer drama of it.

I mean, where else can you stumble upon a centuries-old castle in the middle of nowhere, or hike a rugged mountain in the morning, wander through ancient ruins in the afternoon, and end the day in a cozy pub with a dram of whisky in hand (while the weather shifts from sunshine to drizzle in a heartbeat)?

From the Highlands to the islands, Scotland seems like the ultimate destination for nature lovers, history buffs, and anyone who likes a little adventure mixed with their road trip. I can already picture myself on those winding roads, chasing views that are pure magic—no doubt this country has my heart already.

Highlights

  • The Highlands – Dramatic mountains, endless moors, and the kind of scenery that makes you want to quit your job and become a wandering storyteller.
  • Isle of Skye – Fairy pools, jagged cliffs, and landscapes straight out of a fantasy novel.
  • Edinburgh – A city with gothic charm, a castle on a hill, and enough ghost stories to keep you up at night.
  • Glencoe – One of the most breathtaking (and slightly eerie) valleys in Scotland, perfect for hiking and photography.
  • Loch Ness – A legendary lake where you can search for Nessie, or just enjoy the moody Scottish vibes.

When to go

  • Best time: May–September for the best chance of good weather (but let’s be real, expect rain anytime).

UZBEKISTAN

Uzbekistan has been on my radar for a while. This country is packed with history, stunning architecture, and enough off-the-beaten-path charm to make every traveler feel like an explorer. Think turquoise-tiled mosques, bustling bazaars, and ancient cities that look straight out of a fairytale—minus the crowds you’d find in more famous destinations.

Beyond the history, there’s the adventure: deserts, mountains, and a chance to sleep in a yurt under a sky full of stars. Add to that the legendary Silk Road hospitality (and a diet of plov and fresh bread), and it’s easy to see why Uzbekistan is high on my bucket list.

Highlights

  • Samarkand – The crown jewel of the Silk Road, home to the breathtaking Registan Square.
  • Bukhara – A city frozen in time, filled with ancient madrasas, mosques, and a touch of old-world mystique.
  • Khiva – A walled city that feels like stepping into a time machine, with its perfectly preserved medieval streets.
  • The Fergana Valley – Uzbekistan’s lush side, famous for handicrafts, silk production, and scenic landscapes.
  • The Kyzylkum Desert – Sleep in a yurt, ride a camel, and experience the vast emptiness of Central Asia.

When to go

  • Best time: April–June and September–October for pleasant weather and clear skies

OMAN

After traveling mostly in Asia, I was eager to explore a new destination, and Oman had always been on my radar. While preparing for my trip, I was excited about the promise of serene oases, steep mountains, crystal-clear waters, and the legendary hospitality Oman is known for. But as it turns out, Oman exceeded all my expectations. It offers the perfect blend of almost untouched natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and incredibly warm people. And let’s not forget the food—delicious!
