Singapore: The Winter Escape That Ruins Your Hair (and You’ll Love It)

Grey skies, frozen fingers, and endless layers? Swap all that for humidity, skyline views, and the smell of street food in the air. Singapore is the perfect antidote to winter — whether you stay for a few days or use it as a stopover on your way to somewhere else in Southeast Asia.

Ultra-modern yet deeply rooted in its heritage, Singapore blends futuristic architecture, lush green spaces, hawker culture, and historic neighborhoods like nowhere else. One minute you’re staring up at a surreal skyline, the next you’re eating the best meal of your trip for a few dollars in a noisy food court. Compact, vibrant, and full of surprises.

When family or friends visit me, this is the exact 3-day itinerary I take them on — a mix of iconic sights and hidden corners, without rushing (too much).

  1. Day 1 – Color First, Wow Later
  2. Day 2 – Icons by Day, Local by Night
  3. Day 3 – Green, Slow & Barefoot
  4. Why Singapore Should Be Your Next Stop

Day 1 – Color First, Wow Later

Daytime: Kampong Glam & Little India
Start with Arab Street, Haji Lane, and the Sultan Mosque. Colorful, lively, and perfect to wake up your jet-lagged brain. Then head to Little India for spices, noise, and sensory overload. Try Mustafa Centre if you’re feeling brave (pick Sunday if you really want to test your limits).

Nighttime: Marina Bay
Save the futuristic stuff for the dark. Watch the Supertrees light show at Garden by the Bay, walk across the Helix Bridge, say a quick hello to the Merlion, and finish with the MBS light show (Spectra). Yes, it’s touristy. Yes, it’s impressive. I’ve seen aroun 30 times and still enjoy it!

Eat satay at Lau Pa Sat. Non-negotiable!

Day 2 – Icons by Day, Local by Night

Morning: Marina Bay (Again, but Different)
Daylight changes everything. Walk around the bay and enjoy the same wow effect but under the hot sun, then step inside the Marine Bay Sands Mall, partly for the indoor river and fancy shop but mostly for the aircon break! Go up to Marina Bay Sands SkyPark for the skyline view and a picture of the famous infinity pool. Then head to Garden by the bay to explore the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest – jungle vibes, but perfectly controlled temperature and humidity)

Afternoon & Evening: Chinatown
Temples, shophouses, and some of the best food in the city. Eat at Maxwell Food Centre, visit the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple (don’t forget to check the last floor), and don’t miss the tiny hidden temple on Amoy Street. Finish the day with another food stop or drinks nearby. Options are endless.

Day 3 – Green, Slow & Barefoot

Early Morning: Nature & Wildlife
Pick your adventure: MacRitchie Treetop Walk, Henderson Waves, or Sungei Buloh if you want something quieter and wilder.

Afternoon & Evening: Katong, Gardens & the Beach
Wander through Singapore Botanic Gardens (don’t miss the Orchid Garden), then head to Katong / Joo Chiat for pastel houses and brunch. End the trip in Sentosa, feet in the sand, pretending you don’t have a flight soon.

Why Singapore Should Be Your Next Stop

It’s the perfect mix of city + nature + incredible food (and yes, it’s very safe too).

If your are still not convinced, Singapore is the kind of place that quietly surprises you. Easy, intense, and full of contrasts, it works perfectly as a short break or a stopover that steals the spotlight. Yes, the humidity will completely destroy your hair (accept it, fight is useless), but when you’re eating amazing food, watching the skyline light up, and walking around in a t-shirt in the middle of winter… honestly, that feels like a very fair deal.

Happy Adventures!
